A New Chapter for Bakewell — A Personal Message from Rob Hattersley

Bakewell isn't just where I grew up, it's the place that shaped who I am.

Watching my parents run Aitch’s Wine Bar and Bistro for 22 years taught me the value of good food, warm hospitality, and community connection. It wasn’t just a business; it was a hub of life, laughter, and conversation. Since they sold it in 2004, I’ve felt that Bakewell has been missing that heartbeat. People still stop me to say, “We need something like Aitch’s again.”

For the past two decades, I’ve worked in some of the most exciting bars and restaurants around the world, from bustling city hotspots to intimate neighbourhood gems. Each experience has taught me something. How to create an atmosphere that feels alive, how to deliver service that feels personal and how to blend great food and drink with a sense of belonging.

Now, I want to bring that experience home. The Charleston, in Bakewell’s most iconic building, is the perfect stage to create a venue rooted in local heritage yet inspired by global standards. I imagine a place where locals gather after work, visitors feel instantly at home and every detail – from the wine list to the lighting, is thoughtfully curated.

My goal is simple: to bring Bakewell alive again.

To create a venue that feels like it’s always been here, yet gives the town a new energy. A place where stories are shared, friendships are made, and the best of Bakewell is celebrated every day.

Stay tuned as we share more about The Charleston – the countdown to opening has begun.
