Upping the Coffee Game: Rob Hattersley and Josh Bulter Collaborate with Cafeology Ahead of The Charleston Opening
With the grand opening of The Charleston getting closer, Managing Director, Rob Hattersley and General Manager, Josh Butler made a strategic visit to Sheffield’s acclaimed Cafeology to ensure the coffee offering would be nothing short of exceptional.
Their goal: to craft a drinks menu that would set The Charleston apart and reflect a commitment to quality, creativity, and inclusivity.
Cafeology, known for its ethical sourcing and innovative approach to coffee, welcomed Rob and Josh for a hands-on development session. Working alongside Brian Unkles, Steve, and Stuart, the team explored a wide range of flavours, brewing methods, and presentation styles to shape a standout coffee experience.

The innovation didn’t stop at coffee. Rob and Josh also worked with the Cafeology team to develop a vibrant range of alternative lattes, including chai, matcha, beetroot, and turmeric. These drinks bring both colour and character to the menu, catering to health-conscious customers and those seeking something a little different. Each was carefully balanced for taste and texture, ensuring they’re as satisfying as they are eye-catching.

At the heart of the collaboration was the creation of the Longbow blend—a bold and balanced coffee featuring beans from Indonesian Sumatra, Brazil, and Ethiopia. Each origin was chosen for its distinctive profile: Sumatra for its earthy richness, Brazil for its smooth, nutty base, and Ethiopia for its bright, fruity top notes. The result is a versatile blend that performs beautifully across espresso formats, offering depth and complexity in every cup.
Beyond the hot drinks, the team also turned their attention to cold coffee options, recognising the growing demand for refreshing, chilled alternatives. From cold brew to iced lattes and beyond, they explored brewing techniques and flavour pairings that would complement the Longbow blend while offering a cool twist for warmer days or on-the-go customers.

The collaboration was a fusion of vision and expertise. Rob and Josh brought their aspirations for The Charleston’s identity and customer experience, while Brian, Steve, and Stuart contributed deep knowledge of sourcing, roasting, and drink development. Together, they crafted a drinks offering that reflects The Charleston’s ethos: thoughtful, bold, and inclusive.

As The Charleston prepares to open its doors, the excitement is palpable. The Longbow blend is already earning praise from early tasters, and the cold coffee and alternative lattes are poised to become signature favourites. Thanks to the groundwork laid at Cafeology, The Charleston is ready to serve drinks that tell a story—of collaboration, craftsmanship, and care.
Whether you’re a coffee purist or an adventurous sipper, The Charleston promises a drinks experience that’s elevated, refreshing, and full of flavour.
